Why Reviews Could Be the Best Marketing You’ll Ever Do
If there’s one thing that can make a huge difference to your business, it’s customer reviews.
Think about it…
When you’re looking for a restaurant, hotel or product online, what’s the first thing you check?
The reviews.
Your customers do exactly the same thing.
Before they pick up the phone, they’ll often compare a few businesses.
The one with the most recent, genuine reviews usually stands out.
Reviews don’t just build trust with customers—they also help Google understand that your business is active, reliable and delivering a good service.
Every new review tells Google something important.
It says:
✔ This business is real.
✔ Customers are using them.
✔ Customers are happy with the work.
✔ The business is still active.
When Google sees these signals consistently, it has more confidence in showing your business to people searching locally.
At the same time, reviews help potential customers feel more confident about choosing you.
Quality Matters… But So Does Consistency
Many businesses ask for 20 reviews when they first start.
Then they stop.
Six months later they still only have 20 reviews.
That doesn’t look like an active business.
Instead…
Aim to collect reviews every single month.
Even just a few new reviews each month show that you’re still working and keeping customers happy.
Google likes active businesses.
Customers do too.
There isn’t a magic number.
Instead, compare yourself with the businesses that appear above you on Google.
You need at least 25 for google, Ai and your customers to start trusting you. Â
Don’t worry you can build to this over the next few month – just remember to keep asking every customer and you will be surprised how quickly they build.
no matter how good a job you have done – most customers will find a excuse to not do it , don’t give them one .
You can do this by:
Simply print a small card or sticker with your Google review QR code.
At the end of every job you can say:
“If you’re happy with everything today, just scan this QR code when you get a minute. We’d really appreciate a review.”
Customers simply point their phone camera at the code.
No searching.
No typing.
Just scan and review.
Keep a few cards in your van so you’re always ready to ask.
Finding your review link only takes a minute.
Sign in to your Google Business Profile.
Search for your business on Google while logged in.
Click Ask for reviews.
Google will display your review link and QR code.
Click Copy Link and either send it to customers or better still print it for your van.
Google will notify you when someone leaves a review.
Never ignore reviews.
Whether they’re good or bad.
Thank every customer for taking the time to leave feedback.
A simple reply shows future customers that you care.
Even something as simple as:
“Thank you for your kind review. We’re really pleased you were happy with the work.”
goes a long way.
Ask the customer to try and put as much detail in the review as possible “John changed my sink tap and was clean, tidy and got it done in record time ”
NOTÂ
“John was great”
Every business gets the occasional unhappy customer.
Don’t panic.
Stay polite.
Stay professional.
Never argue.
Reply calmly, offer to resolve the issue and move the conversation offline if needed.
Future customers are often more interested in how you respond than the review itself.
